The kitchen was designed around two ideas: material honesty and openness to light.
Natural light, Maple wood, stainless, and ceramic tile
Simple materials that shape this space.
At its center is a fully integrated stainless steel counter that folds seamlessly into the backsplash, forming a continuous surface. The sink was custom welded into place, eliminating seams, grout lines, and edges that collect wear over time. The faucet and disposal button are mounted to the wall, allowing the counter to remain uninterrupted creating a durable, resilient surface to wear for daily use.
To balance the precision of the metal, the surrounding elements include solid maple, tongue-and-groove flooring underfoot and full hardwood cabinetry throughout. The drawer fronts and doors are true wood, not veneer, allowing the grain to age naturally and gain character with use. Open shelving introduces lightness and offers space for everyday objects to live in view.
In a kitchen, we know it is not all about looks. Therefore, special attention was given to the appliances. A 36-inch induction range by Miele anchors the workspace, paired with an integrated microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator to maintain visual calm. A custom stainless shroud wraps the ventilation system, reinforcing the material continuity.
While stainless steel can read as industrial, the surface was finished to a softened, matte expression, which catches the light more gently rather than reflecting it sharply. The effect is quiet and tactile, complementing the warmth of the wood.
Above the counters, hand made Hennepin glass pendants frame the work zone through light rather than structure. The lighting creates a sense of intimacy, framing the space without enclosing it.
The result is a kitchen that feels composed but never precious, built from honest materials, shaped by light, and designed to improve with time.
